9 Down 3 To Go Until the Big 1

Lorelai turned 9 months old yesterday. Still crazy for me to think about. She is already in 12 month old clothing, she pulls up on everything and might be walking by her birthday at this rate, she eats Cheerios by the fist full, and is growing out of her carseat by the day...YET STILL NO TEETH!
No stats yet, we have a Dr.'s appt tomorrow morning (yay :\) and I will update things again then. For now you all get to gaze into my pretty girl's baby blues ♥
Her beauty grows each month I take pictures :)

UPDATE: Lorelai weighs 19lbs and is 29 1/2ins long. That's 50% for weight and 97% for height! :D Happy and Healthy little girly

Thank Heaven for Little Girls

In case you missed the flood of pictures on Facebook, our baby girl was baptized over the weekend. Our friend Jeremy was so kind and came to our house to do it at home. Doing it in our house was special and significant. As he opened up the ceremony, baptizing a child in the place where they will grow and learn is a touching and heartfelt location. Christopher and I were so pleased with the ceremony and all our thanks go to Jeremy and his wife (and one of my good friends) Maggie. :-)
All most all of our family made for the ceremony. (We missed you KS Lewis'!) There was love, faith, food, and fun. It was so sweet how everyone came together with God to support our little Lorelai.

Home Owners with Apartment Problems

While living at the Estancia Apartments I had very few frustrations. I loved the apartment; the layout was very smart and convenient. We had our own washer and dryer in the apartment, we had wood floors, granite countertops, stainless appliances, over-sized main room, carpet in the bedrooms, plenty of general storage, a huge bathroom (with jetted tub and separate shower). There were some downsides to the complex; they needed more windows, our master closet was small, only one sink in the bathroom…fines for everything.
Fine for not having your dog on a leash, fine for not picking up your dog’s outside mess, fine for keeping your trash bin outside your door past the allotted time, fine fee for paying rent online…they even tow your car in you park in the covered parking. Now with all this said, rules are rules and if you follow them, you had no problem. Then we moved out.

Now, I haven’t lived in many apartments, in fact, this was my first one. So, with this in mind, I didn’t know how organized or disorganized an apartment complex could be. I was surprised on how poorly they handled the following:

Now we had been in the main office (together and separate) a total of 4 different times talking to the staff about our move out date, last rent payment, forwarding address, etc. We turned in our keys and were waiting to hear from them about the post inspection and when we could turn off the power. We heard nothing for weeks. Chris was calling, leaving voice mails; he even called the main leasing office and they weren’t helpful at all and just patched us to the voice mail…again. A total of 4 messages were left over 2 weeks…and yet not one single returned call. Instead, my MiL received a letter bill for nearly $2,000 that was due in 2 weeks or they would “report it to the credit agencies.” They said we still had to pay the remaining rent (though we already paid the lease-breaking fee) and had to pay for new carpet and over $100 in “pet damages.” So, they ignored our forwarding  address and sent it to someone else entirely; refused to return our calls because apparently they haven’t had working phones in over a month; still want us to pay like we are living there EVEN THOUGH we informed them we were breaking lease AND paid over $700 fine for it. Fuming, Chris and I decided to go the office and get some answers. While my day didn’t go as planned and had to stay home, Chris carried on over.

Long story short, I am not thrilled with the results.  It is supposedly not as bad as I feared…but we’ll see. They say a new resident is moving in on the 31st and we won’t have to pay the initial balance. But, seeing as I don’t trust these people at all (and they threatened credit agencies) we went ahead and paid the balance (grumble) and should receive a refund check soon. Chris got 2 different personal phone numbers of managers and we plan to call them continuously until we see some money back. Not fun.

So, basically, if you are in the market for an apartment in the Plano/Frisco area I strongly suggest you steer clear of Estancia Apartments. Great buildings and floor plans but the management is so awful it ruins all the positives about the complex. Such a disappointment. I am so happy we have a house now and things have gone swimmingly with our mortgage and HOA thus far. Fingers crossed it continues and the apt issues end!

The Summer That Never Ends

I feel like not a lot has happened over here lately, yet I still would like to blog…this creates a wonderful opportunity for me to use my imagination in order to think up new things to write about. Though my brainstorming was a little lackluster, I have still decided to blog a bit…bare with me through the boredom. ;)

This heat is still killing me slowly. I despise summer, and this is the summer that never ends. I keep praying for Fall…but nothing has changed yet. Fall shall bring some new firsts for us and our family. Lorelai will be baptized on the 27th, I am looking forward to that special day. It will be just a small family ceremony at our house, just focusing on the love and support that surrounds Lorelai. She then has her 9 month old appt on the 1st. 9 months! We recently saw sweet baby Ava (1month old daughter of my MOH, Jen) and LEL seems huge next to her! Ava weighs as much now as Lorelai did when she was born! It is crazy how big Lorelai has gotten. She now pulls herself up on everything. It is so cute how she pops up over the coffee table top or the chair ottoman. She smiles her toothless smile and giggles with pride. Seriously, too sweet for words. Speaking of teeth…yeah, you read that right, almost 9 months and NO teeth. Wondering when that will happen. She gets so cranky and irritable now, I know it’s coming, just nothing has cut through yet. More prays on that excursion as well.
The house has remained the same. I did slightly rearrange the familyroom furniture a bit because I packed away the baby swing. I would really like to do the following when our budget permits:
  • ·         Remodel master bath (new floors, faucets, paint walls, paint cabinets, new light fixture, and new mirror set up)
  • ·         New foyer light
  • ·         Get rid of our purple-walled bedroom
  • ·         Make that room a guest room/Lorelai future room
  • ·         Clean carpets
  • ·         Paint outside trim and front door
  • ·         Add some shelves in the kid bathroom and livingroom
  • ·         Paint the halls and foyer
  • ·         Landscape the front and back yard

I think that covers it.

I also am excited for LEL’s first Halloween and Thanksgiving. Then, her first birthday! Still a few months away but I know it will come fast. Sheesh. Just thinking of it makes me a little teary-eyed. I look forward to planning her little party! Little being relative or course. ;)
I have to schedule Phoebe’s appt for her boosters…she will enjoy that. Not. Both my little girlies hate the car. Not so fun for me. Though they both like visiting different places, they just don’t like the journey to get there.
Chris has been working hard…and will most likely be working harder soon. Changes at work will cause some issues for him. But hopefully it will be temporary and I keep in mind we are blessed for him to have a job in this time…and a good job at that. As he was leaving for work this morning, Lorelai was crying at him not to leave. He then explained to her he had to go work so she can “have all the paci’s she wants.” I thought it was cute…and true! We are very appreciative of his hard work and success!

Nap time over, off to love on my Lorelai!

"What's this?"

Saturday marked 2 years since Chris proposed. 2 years? Really? It is amazing how fast things have changed! We did have a little celebration, and I got to remember all the specialness (I know, not a word) of that time.

It all started with a meal at his apartment. I believe it was pasta. After dinner we decided to go out for some dessert coffee. Now it was about 6pm and I know how much Chris hates driving in rush hour traffic (because he was talking about it just days before) so I suggested we wait for a little while. He agreed at first but then seemed restless and anxious. "Let's just go." He insisted.
So we put on shoes and left. Once we got to the store we both exited the car, I got gross muddy street water on my leg and started to wipe it off with disgust. Meanwhile Chris was at the back of the car waiting for me. Once I had wiped off all I could, I walked over to him only to find him bent down reaching for something under the car. My first thought was "Oh great, what's wrong with the car?" he then quickly revealed his hand with a "What's this?" I zoned in on this little object in his hand. Expecting to see a nail, shard of glass, or something else detrimental to the car, you can imagine my shock when I saw a beautiful, glimmering, piece of jewelry.
It hit me, he was proposing. I dropped my nice purse (in that gross street water) and just stared at him with my jaw dropped. I began giggling and he asked "Will you marry me?" Without a beat I of course said yes. He began to put the ring on...the wrong hand. With a quick correction (and a hug) the ring was on and we were engaged.
Still shocked and gazing at my hand, I picked up my purse and Chris ever so casually carried on with our plans. "Let's get some coffee." :) That's right, the first people to find out about our in engagement were the baristas at Starbucks on Custer and Eldorado.

I still smile when I think about that moment. We visited that store again on Saturday, now married and with our baby girl. How life has changed and how we excitedly look forward to the next year and the years to follow. ♥

Beating the Heat?

This term is being used left and right! I have been trying not to focus on the heat…I mean, what good is that going to do? But I have to admit, it is starting to affect everything!

Let’s start with the heat itself, here is an example of this week from a couple of days ago:

Geez. Those numbers are just p-a-i-n-f-u-l.

The heat drains my energy and productivity. I just feel lazy and gross most of the day. I think Lorelai has a touch of that herself. She refuses to do basic things…like hold her bottle. I have to lay her down on the floor so she has to put out as little effort as possible.
It also takes a lot out of AC units. Luckily ours is newer so we haven’t had any issues…so far. My mom has had a couple of issues and a lot of our surrounding family and friends have had theirs’ die. They say to raise the temperature to help ease the load. Raise it to above 78…ours is always set to 79, and today I raised it again to 80.
The city has also restricted our water usage; watering the lawn no more than 2 days a week. This has started worries about foundation work. The street across from our development split and raised like a mini mountain, and I heard of more streets in the area following suit.

We also have to limit our electricity consumption. From the hours of 3-7pm we have been advised to use next to nothing in order to avoid black-outs. This means no washing machine, no dishwasher, high AC temps, no light/lamps, no oven, little stove use, and avoid opening the refrigerator. I am sure there are more…but you get the idea.

Now I can’t do half my chores when it is the best time to (for my schedule), I can’t make half of my scheduled dinners, I sit in a pretty dark house…that’s kind of warm, I can’t water my plants effectively (so things are dying), I have to worry about my lawn splitting and my foundation cracking, I have to take extra steps in order to make sure my baby girl doesn’t overheat in the car (a mobile fan clipped to the seat in front of her so she at least gets some air flow), my dog can only go out for about 10mins at a time…and sheesh…I am tired just thinking about how this summer has changed our everyday living.

I heard that the west coast has had cooler than normal temps…like, not reaching above 70…I am so jealous. I pray for any early arrival of Fall. Everyday.

Stay cool (and sane) out there! And if you live on the [lucky] west coast, be thankful!

Restless

Sorry for all the template changes...if anyone checks this enough to notice how many times I have changed it.

I have been feeling a bit restless. I blame the heat.
Maybe this one will stick for awhile ;)

Lorelai in Motion

Just a couple of videos of Lorelai recently :)

She does this every time I have bubble gum.

She was a little full-of-it this afternoon. She thought me catching her in the act of dumping the DVD's was a great game ever. Her giggle made my day.
